Characters

Jayla Quinn

Jayla Quinn is an early 20s African American woman with natural hair, sporting a low maintenance style that she doesn't worry too much about. She's typically stressed out but finds solace in playing her cello. Her reserved nature and introspective personality are a result of the many losses she has experienced in her life, with the passing of her mother at age 14 being the toughest. As the sole caregiver to her grandmother, Jayla has taken on a lot of responsibility at a young age and is slowly coming into her own.

Bell "GeGe"

Bell Whitlock is a mid-70s African American woman with a short haircut and a low-maintenance style, but in her younger days, she was flamboyant and in your face, unlike her sister Gladys. Despite suffering from dementia, Bell is usually whimsical and vibrant, but her mental illness has taken a toll on her. She was once a world-renowned cellist, traveling the world to play the cello.

Gladys

Gladys, Bell's sister, is also in her mid-70s and is the opposite of Bell. She's very well-kept and regal, with a standoffish and sadity personality. Gladys has some health issues that affect her walking, but she is still serious and composed.

Eric

16-18 years old young man. Jayla’s cousin.  Very kind with a sweet smile. He is neutral in Jayla’s situation. Very helpful and doesn't fully understand the situation but knows that his cousin's dream is to go to Juilliard. He is the only one who congratulates Jayla on her accomplishment.

Lizzie

Lizzie is a very intelligent woman, raised by an artist but without any musical talent like her mother. She has a loving personality and got pregnant at a young age with her high school sweetheart, who passed away in a car accident when their child Jayla was only six months old. Later in life, Lizzie was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she passed away at the age of 30, leaving Jayla to grow up without her mother.
